St. Mere Eglise Paratrooper

St. Mere Eglise Paratrooper

St. Mere Eglise was one of the first towns liberated after D-Day. An American paratrooper, John Steele, landed on the church steeple and his parachute became entangled. The town has preserved the site, with a representation of the parachute and Steele.
